If you had a week's opportunity for a relaxed, romantic(!) week away in early Septmber

Barcelona's got everything you need .. Romance needs more than a beach.

Good call, but too crowded.

Try Girona (one hour north from Barcelona) - relaxed atmosphere, friendly, interesting and beautiful architecture. And not too hot.

Not too far from the coast.

And RyanAir () fly to the airport close by.

Rhodes or Corfu. Both tick the sun sea and and sand box, and Rhodes town in particular is packed with history.
I’m in Corfu right now. Crazy times.

Word of warning though - there’s a rubbish crisis (as in garbage, not one of Accy’s Cafe posts) as the islands landfill has filled up and the money for a new one from the EU has gone walkabouts. The main roads are lined with shite. We even had to wait in a line of traffic yesterday to let a JCB shove a mountain of crap off the road and into some bushes. We’re up in the hills in the north where it’s not so bad.

Albania looks nice from here though.

Naples, sit outside a cafe, preferably near a busy roundabout and watch it all kick off. :okay: Failing that I'd second Seville, relaxing compared to the other Spanish cities mentioned and super romatic and although I used to love it, you couldn't pay me to go back to Barcelona.

Stayed there a few years ago (May 2009)
I think it was because SWMBO was nearby on business at the Hospital, so we stayed at a hotel overlooking the Boat Museum
Our view, & I think - the hotel??

I've just arrived in Carcassonne which looks promising. It has an airport, a smart French town bit and a medieval fairy tale castle old town bit ( which at the moment is absolutely heaving but, you know, August - and i have no choice). Just had a good old explore on my bike - took about an hour - and there is the start of the Canal du Midi. The place is about 70% restaurant and prices seem very reasonable.

Procida in the bay of Naples.

I typed that in a bit of a hurry this morning and shall now expand a little. Two years ago we went to Ischia and Procida at the end of October. The weather was still glorious and in the low to mid twenties. All the locals were wearing coats (I was in shorts and T shirt), so the summer months must be very hot!

This is where we stayed: https://www.ischiareview.com/tenuta-del-poggio-antico.html

Very nice hotel, up in the mountains and has three nice restaurants within walking distance. Its only negative is that the walls seemed paper thin, so if you want to get properly romantic your neighbours will hear every move! Don't rent a car, as the locals all drive like maniacs. I don't recall seeing any cars without dents.

A pic wot I took that shows the weather conditions.
