To sum up the forgoing in an attempt to be brief as well as helpful: it could be anywhere.
This is what happens you have/he has the tool in your/his hand but then need to lift something requiring two hands so you/he put the tool on the floor, when transporting the thing that needed two hands you kick the tool under a piece of furniture where it sits gathering dust until you move the piece of furniture. If the thing requiting two hands is, say a milk carton then go with Stephanie's suggestion.
