If you're on a blue Ribble and going to grab a tow from me...

Just a little moan really...

I'm a big lad, so I understand that I might be convenient to grab a tow from as I suppose I displace a fair bit of air for your more lithe figure to take advantage of, but when we're on a potholed road (that would be "any road in Sheffield" then), please don't be right on my back wheel, so that I end up crashing over ruts and potholes for fear that going around them will clip your front wheel and send you under a car....

Though I suppose you (a) had lights on and (b) you were the only one who didn't go careering over the pedestrian crossing to jump the lights - though I saw you thinking about it!

I doubt the person is on here but if you are, maybe you were unaware that I couldn't tell quite how close you were or whether your front wheel was overlapping my rear - so much so that I couldn't move out to take primary to claim the road from the car that was definitely thinking (then thought better) of passing then left hooking down the fork in the road

I thought a bloke was going to grab a tow off me HERE last tuesday... but when I looked back, thinking I had been riding slowly, I saw that he was still at the bottom and I was right near the top.

I dont mind people drafting, but as you say they need to be safe about it, its not a race environment and they need to be well aware of stopping distance and hazards around them.

its for this reason the only person I'll ever catch a tow off is my wife, I just don't let her know how close to her I am and I'm always ready to brake and pull to the side if needs be.

although I can generally predict her riding position.

I don't mind if people do it safely. But if they take the piss then i either a. stop pedalling until they get the message. b. shift up a gear, hands on the drops and out the saddle. Try and keep up!

I had someone draft me the other day when they had no lights on, and that pissed me off, i make my self stand out with my lights and then some idiot drafts me and blocks them all!

Magnatom at it again!

Actually, isn't this the second story of such behavior from someone riding a blue Ribble on this forum recently?

Are the riders of blue Ribbles the BMW drivers of the cycling world? ;)

I don't think you can get Ribbles in any other colour.

no reason for someone drafting to be overlapping surely?

I like a draft but I never get all that close unless I get a good feeling form the bloke in front. in London traffic you really can't sacrifice the view ahead

anyone wants to draft me is welcome, up to them to make it work, I'm not going to change my style for them, as BM says, and wave to tell them to back off is easily done if they're bothering you

Nah, no chance. I'd be leading not drafting! In all seriousness I'm looking forward to getting back on my summer bike (Kinesis). My ribble has taken a pounding this year with the weather. It is held together with a mixture of cable ties and blue tack!!:smile:

I ride a blue ribble, and I was behind another chap this morning, first cyclist I've come across this year on my commutte. He was on a road bike, I stayed behind until I could pass, we approached a junction to our left, when a light blue Clio put his foot down then left hooked us! I don't know how he didnt wipe the guy out in front of me. All for the sake of applying his brakes for a second or two, twat!

But I'm in the west Mids so I'm not guilty of any of the offences to you!

PS dont tar all blue ribble riders with the same brush lol

Funnily enough I was going to post a sarcastic 'Blue Ribble' thread a few weeks ago on the lines of:

"If you're the bloke on a blue Ribble who rides on the pavement then hops off into the cycle lane, it would be a REALLY good idea to look behind you in case THERE'S ALREADY A CYCLIST IN THE CYCLE LANE!! It would also be nice if you didn't hurl abuse at said cyclist after nearly knocking him off."

That was Whitegate Drive in Blackpool, so clearly there's more than one! Maybe it's time Ribble offered a choice of colours on their Audax bike, before their sales fall through the floor because of the Blue Ribble / BMW effect...........

(Still better than the teenager on a bike who decided to clear his throat and spit the phlegm out to the right JUST as I was alongside him. Git. He was very apologetic though)

Blue ribble isn't that the colour of their 'winter' road/audax & cheap Aluminium road frames?

Sheepy1209, I thought the done thing was to clear my throat into a drain or towards the nearside hedge (assuming you're not on the right of a chaingang).

I was drafting a blue ribble the other day, oddly enough. I was on skates, though.

I like the riders who accelerate when a skater catches them. It's no fun racing them if they don't want to play :-)

Well for a so called 'cheap aluminium road frame' mines done well then, it's coped with all that the British winter can throw at it, maybe that's why they call it a winter training bike, I've had two accidents on it and the last was at 25 mph, the frame hasn't budged, there solid, and I wouldn't say 11 kgs is that heavy either.
