Why order something to be delivered knowing that you're not going to be in to receive it?

I might be in,depends which day it is delivered.Do you suggest I stay in all week to wait for a delivery?

As I said I generally try to get it palmed off to Argos click and collect or try to arrange for when I'm around...Some delivery companies do actually send an email with a possible re-arranging of a delivery time apart from Parcel Farce.Looks like the said item is lost anyway.

Congested roads, pollution and the huge rise in home shopping/delivery, how could this all be managed? I had an idea, probably crazy, but why don't we create a nationalised postal service? Even better we could include a national network of, let's call them Post Offices, where people could collect things and carry out other tasks.

The whole nation could benefit from the economy of scale and the ability to manage deliveries to reduce the number of vehicles on the road. No more multiple deliveries from multiple couriers to the same point. We could also legislate to ensure the drivers, and their vehicles, meet certain standards. Even to the point of paying them well enough, and limiting their hours, to reduce the need/desire to drive like a nutter to meet deadlines. Some bad eggs would still exist but at least it would be a step in the right direction.
and once created the government could sell it to their friends who could flog it to a forenz power or corporation for a huge profit.

What could possibly go wrong?

The government keep telling us they can't run anything as well as the private sector which sort of begs the question, how can they claim confidence in running the entire country?

Isn't it already? If not, what's this "UK plc" that I keep hearing about?

Come on @Accy cyclist how didn't go?
Nothing too exciting. I was waiting to drive the van with my drop offs in. I had the list of parcels and the addresses. The boss told me to pick up the keys and take van number 7 out(or whatever its number was).Somehow i picked up the wrong keys and took the wrong van. Then headed to Lancaster (30 mile north)with stuff meant for the Bolton are(20 miles south) Needless to say, they weren't happy about it and fired me the following day.

Last parcelfarce card had "Over back gate" written on it. Over. As in thrown.

Good job it was only two carbon bottle cages, in a jiffy bag which had partly dissolved, when I got home and not anything expensive.

Oh. Hang on a sec....

Very nearly true. He founded his own courier firm. He called it Herpes.

Came round again and I ws out working...the bloody cheek of not waiting in all day although he posted that he'd deliver it yesterday.Lucky I didn't wait in for nothing. This time a very good neighbour decided to be in and received the parcel.

I'm sure there is a better way of doing this...like arranging when I will be in so I can wait around all day for the Parcelforce driver.

No matter it got here eventually.Perhaps I should wait for retirement then I could definitely be in and hang around for a couple of weeks for the delivery...but sods law would be I'd still probably miss it.
