My mother painted flowers. One of my favourites was a Hellebore. I'll see if I can get a pic of it.

At risk of being even more boring here's another one of mine that has hybridised and I've only just discovered it. I sent some seedlings to @Spinney and @summerdays last year. Did they survive?

That one is very nice.
I remember putting this one in which hasn't done very much (though it did have the pergola fall down on top of it for a bit (still in the process of rebuilding it).
I also have the following ones in the garden.
And I have been offered this one from a friends garden before it is built over ... but I've yet to dig it up - I hope it transplants OK.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
That one's H foetidus, isn't it? I think it's a different species to the more ornamental ones Rich is boring us with, and one I prefer for some reason. We've just been in southern Spain where it was growing everywhere on the mountainside, along with half of the other plants in the garden.
Mrs W's mother breeds all sorts of hardy plants - she's given us a very dark one (even darker, I think, than the one in Rich's third photo), as well as a freckled one. She's also responsible for the flowers in both our avatars.

Great plants. Early colour other than yellow. Agree with Rich, but beware if you have children as they're poisonous.
