Been off the bike for what feels like EVER!. but is actually just over 6 weeks.

Had an sports injury that I just couldn't shake (tendinitis in the Achilles). Thought I was better two weeks ago and so in rode in and out of work (44 miles) but I was wrong and just compounded things, resulting in an audibly creaking ankle and hugely swollen tendon. That wasn't so bad but the fear that it felt like it could snap at any point was awful.

Rode in today, and after 9 hours still no swelling creaking or tightness.

I'm Back!!!^_^

just in time for a 5 day weekend (I'm off tomorrow)

Glad you're better! Tight tendons don't feel nice at all. I'm also on a bit on a sabbatical due to an IT band strain. Been having deep tissue massage; rather painful but it seems to work! Not too noticable with cycling (despite the initial strain originating on 60mile sportive), it's more with running - under physio's orders to rest for two weeks.

Glad you're better now! Tendonitis is not nice - had it in my knee once.
I used an Asian remedy which involved applying hot turmeric paste to the knee. Was OK within a week, but it turned my knee a lovely shade of yellow for a while! ^_^

thanks guys!!

Am back from the Bank hols and really looking forward to riding a little more this week. Am considering the Olympic route to box hill in a couple of weeks so need to be sure that I am capable for that.

Welcome back! I know the feeling v. well being currently sidelined with a recurring muscle problem that can go on for days. It really gets you down but that first ride afterwards is always magic. Enjoy being back!

Perhaps I spoke too soon.

Rode a couple of times last week and felt a "weakness" tried to ignore it untill the dreaded creaking returned.

It now seems that just walking causes inflammation and eventual creaking (albeit less creaking). I originally saw a doc who wasnt my GP (at my wifes practice) and am now finally booked to see my GP (next month can you believe) so that i can get a referral for a scan, physio and potential steroid injection. I just want this bloody thing sorted so that I can ride.

I should avoid surgery as the thing has not ruptured.

On a positive note I've agreed to do LEJOG in the spring of 2013 with a group of pals in aid of adoption UK, so I have a good goal to aim for, for recovery and training.

Is it worth getting a "bike fit" done by someone who doubles up as a physio?
Yep, there is one at the top of crystal palace that has been mentioned to me. Thing is, i really want a physio on referral from my GP as I fear it may take a while to sort and at £75 a pop, I could be into a fair chunk of change before its sorted. (enough for N+1)
