3 years after quitting my job (and my 20 mile a day cycle commute) to be a Dad/Gardener/Bicycle repair man, I'm going back to work and tomorrow is my first commute.

I'll be on the 'cross bike, fresh from racing and completely unmodified to cope with the snow.

Just hope I stay upright.

I thought the whole object of 'cross racing was to be able to jump off/on the bike at various planned and unplanned intervals :hugs:.

Just consider your commute to be a flattish 'cross race !

Enjoy it and you'll probably win !

True but there are often a few unplanned crashes too, which I hope to avoid.

Doubt i'll win, by the way. Knowing my luck I'll probably come 2nd.

Dad/Gardener/Bicycle repair man sounds just the thing. Where do I sign?

Ahhhh, wet grass. It's another 9 months til the next race. Sigh.

I've got a couple of tennis rackets you can borrow, but they might interfere with the SPDs

I'd not want to commute on the cycle with so much snow and ice on the ground. Many cars just seem to plough their own path at the moment and woe betide you if you get in their way ;)

Great thanks. Had to delay it a few of days for one reason or another but I finally did it today (my birthday!!!!!!). 11 miles each way today. Ride in was great - took 35 minutes - but stupidly took a different route home. I'd forgotten how scary commuting in the dark during rush hours can be, especially with snow piled up at the sides of roads and on cycle paths forcing me on to main roads and across major intersections. Ah well, got home in one piece and will be doing it all again tomorrow (other office - 9 miles each way).
