My battery on my cateye cycle computer went flat about 3 weeks ago, I have to say I'm not really that bothered. I don't feel my cycling has suffered. Am I becoming a more chilled cyclist, or is it that I know how far I commute on a daily basis and the speed mileage doesn't really matter to me these days. If I see another cyclist don't get me wrong ill probably chase them down, but I think I'll just leave the computer on my weekend bike.......,,

I have left my computer at home or work a couple of times and it is quite liberating.

I lost my bike computer at the beginning of January. Got fed up as I had only just replaced it. Still haven't replaced it.
It is either my age, or I've got to the same stage as you, or the cold weather and easterly/nor-easterly winds making my commute to work a battle against the winds, ice and snow, that means I'm not that bothered any more.
Or just that my life focus has changed a bit.

Always use mine, as I meander around the Wiltshire countryside on my way to work I like to record how far I have actually cycled.
Also time of day is always display so that I know when it is time to stop pootling and head towards work.

Yes mate, I'm getting fed up of the windy cold conditions now, come on its supposed to be spring! Although for a rare occasion I did have to put my shades on this morning! Which was nice....

I find that the cycle comp is a way to moderate & regulate my riding to sane levels. When I had to be without a head unit for a week my training schedule went to pot. It was basically 2 flat out tempo rides a day .

Not much fun when it says <15mph because you are riding into the wind in the cold, but get a tailwind on a nice sunny day and you'll wish you had it "just to see" ;)

Going out without computer is a bit like forgetting to put the watch on your arm. It's only when you don't have them that you realise how much you 'use' them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On busy roads they can sometimes be a distraction. I find I can glance down at it and get caught up in working out trivial statistics when I should be looking out for numpties. Whilst one might suggest just using it at the end of a journey I find that in practice this isn't so easy.
Without one I definitely have my mind more focused on my riding but I do enjoy using one nevertheless. Like other people here I think I'll restrict use to my occasional bike rather than my everydayer.

I just use it as a speedometer, like you would on a car. My main issue with the average speed on my Blackburn SL 3 is that there's no way to turn my computer off - you just have to wait - meaning that rolling the bike into the garage, through the college grounds, whatever, all count against my average speed. And I can't reset it every ride, because then I lose my distance.

All winter I've not got round to fitting the bike computer to the Raleigh Airlite winter commuter. And tbh I've not missed one at all.

Strava's running on the phone in my pocket, so that's been fine.

I started logging all my rides about 8 yrs ago so the bike computer is part of my kit. I purchased cycle stats cycling software a few years ago and put my previous years to current. Anorak-ish I know, but one habit I dont mind having. I just set the thing and forget about it until I get back home then take the reading.
