I landed at Glasgow airport a few years back and could not understand from the hire car counter where the car was parked, even after I'd asked the lady to repeat the instructions for the fifth time. I'd had enough issues getting the car - as the hire car company insisted on phoning the DVLA to check that I had a valid licence as I only had the picture part of my licence on me not the paper part as well.
from her instructions I did understand that you went down the corridor and out the double doors to the car park; but, after that I understood none of her instructions as to where the car was parked .
I spent 45 minutes walking round the car park pushing the unlock button on the key fob waiting waiting for a car to go "Beep Beep" felt like a bit of an idiot, no I'll change that to - I felt like a full idiot.

In these situations I claim deafness and get them to write it down.

Of course, you then have to try to decipher their half illiterate scrawl.....
