If Scots weather is so brilliant how come I nearly died crossing the Bealach Na Ba in a howling rainsquall in August?
First it tried to blast me over the edge on the Kishorn side then there was so much water the tandem cantis on the tourer couldn't shift it off the rims going down into Applecross.
Ever tried riding a loaded camping bike down a twisty 1 in not many at 40+ with no brakes? Nelson's brown trousers don't get a look in.

I'm sure this has done the rounds but this was the snow near my parents place last week  [media]

Might have been true 20-30 years ago when all you could get was Tennent's lager and McEwans Export, but nowadays - Belhaven Best, Caley 80, Deuchars IPA etc etc on tap from most pubs, not to mention the bottled stuff from a host of micro-breweries lends the lie to that. In fact, the statement that "all you get in Scotland is Euro-fizz" is a fundamentally and frankly laughably untrue statement. To use a Scottish turn of phrase....it's pish.

Totally agree [hic!]:wahhey:

Beer? Nice? In Scotland? Are you sure you're drinking beer and not Euro-fizz? Proper beer is not easy to find in Scotland and most bars stock only a selection of over-chilled fizz.

Which bit of Scotland have visited?? I don't recognise the bars you are describing, just ask for 80'...

If any of you chaps can find a decent pub in staggering distance from my house, then you're due a pint from me.

I have a feeling my money's safe though, which is unfortunate. I used to live in Leith a couple of minutes walk from a fantastic pub called the Malt and Hops, but there's nothing of that calibre in Bannockburn, it's all just Euro-fizz!!!!!!

Don't you have a bicycle so that you can go further afield to find a decent pub??

Riding 3.5miles into town would be an absolute pain. It also goes against nipping to the local and having a pint or two then getting off home again in two shakes of a lambs tail!

That's my point though. I come from the middle of nowhere yet EVERY pub has a minium of one ale option, so no need to go across town to find a good pint.

I found the north coast to be a real ale desert, but there were one or two good spots down the west coast. Scourie, Ullapool and Applecross all have decent beer.

I don't know if my local serves a good pint or not but I'm never going to be in it; I'm lucky enough its just far enough away where it'd be a long walk so I can cycle to town in half the time. If it ever opens my new local will be about 100m's away and that would be stumbling distance ;)
