Met Office issue severe weather warning

The UK is braced for more torrential rain and flooding after the Met Office raised the weather warning to amber. The regions affected are:
  • Northern Ireland
  • East of England
  • North West England
  • Wales
  • London & South East England
  • North East England
  • South West England
  • East Midlands
  • Yorkshire & Humber
  • West Midlands
  • SW Scotland
  • Lothian Borders
  • Strathclyde

I like to hear the Shipping Forecast sometimes, and they sometimes start with "There are gale warnings in the following areas...." and then list them - sometimes only one or two, sometimes five or six. You know it's interesting when they just say "There are gale warnings in all areas"!

Every year since 2007, I have crossed my fingers and hoped for a good summer to lift my spirits and encourage me to get back on my bike but the summers just are not happening. Well, strictly, we are having little premature summers in the spring which promise much but then fail to deliver.

And to think I timed my job-free sojourn to enjoy our glorious summer! One of the best books I ever read was by Craig Caldwell who went on a self-propelled continuous Munro AND Corbett rounds in 1986 which, until this June, was THE wettest year on record! He still did it though despite the miserable year thrown at him.
