He's a superb writer and one of my favourites. He has been living in Japan for a few years now and I loved the first two books of his Tokyo trilogy (not sure if the third one is on the way yet) - Tokyo: Year Zero and Occupied City.

A bold claim for someone who essentially recycles new stories as novels. And leaves the occasional downright lie in.

There must be dozens, if not hundreds, ahead of him in the list.

Assume you meant newS stories and possibly his story of the miners' strike, 'GB84'. He would not appeal to any with right wing views when he uses such a seminal incident for a story. No doubt Thatcher's supporters would have such a legacy buried or rewritten if they could.

You may have a point there....

What I meant to add was that I think the publishers will be very careful this time after the problems they had with Johnny Giles and the Leeds book.
