With apologies to @Keith Oates for pinching some of his exclamation marks.
Bike No.1 stopped changing gear last week, giving me a choice of high and a bit higher only (hub gears). Which made riding home against the wind very hard work. Took it to the bike shop, who diagnosed a frayed gear changing cable (yes, I can see that, please change). Delivered on Friday, promised completion by Saturday evening.
Only his shop got broken into on Friday night. Whilst I was fortunate in that they only stole flat-barred bikes (missing more expensive drop-barred ones - I guess we don't have the most clued-up bike thieves around here), it meant that instead of repairing my bike, he had a lot of mess to clear up and phone calls to make. Bike not ready.
So I put the mudguards back on the No.2 (dry weather and Sportives) bike. Which was difficult as the Crud Roadracers were a little tight on the 23s that were fitted until a couple of weeks ago, and unavoidably a little rubby for the 25s now fitted. But they worked, and were tolerable and everything was OK.
Until this morning, when I managed to stick a wheel down a drain cover (ones with diagonal slits), and buckled my wheel.
This sort of bad luck only happens when I am looking at a new bike. Please check my browser history, ye cycling gods, and see that I have not been leching over new Carbon frames for some time now. And stop picking on me.
