Folks round the Black Country call each other "shag" and "blue" and all sorts.

A guy I worked with years ago stuck "ence" on the end of everyones name. His name was Terence so we couldn't do it back to him. ^_^

I think that folk who call me 'Chief' are brave.

I always get called 'Big Man'

'Awright Big Man!!'

I have never been sure if I should be sufficiently bothered to find out if its an insult or compliment, i.e. Is it some sort of social grace I've missed learning about? (Although, being a human Stick Insect, I've always imagined it has something to do with my stature).

Actually, I'd be curious to know now!! There are people here from the Glasgow area, surely someone must know!

There seems to be a massive move towards "guys"
Would you like to go on a punt today guys?
Are you ready to order guys?

I think you'll find That you've stepped over the line........

Never used to annoy me when my dad used to call me dickhead, quite liked it actually!

I get annoyed by the 'guys' thing because I am a female, I may not be a supermodel but I am a female, I have breasts don't call me a guy :cursing:

So do I, but I am 6ft 5 and a touch over 22 stone so it's not a stretch to understand why...

As a kid at Church (yes I did attend at one point. Sod all use it did me though!), I'd get called either 'Doll' or 'Hen' by certain ladies of... Lets just say 'a certain age'.

Strange thing is, those are/were terms for young ladies, but seemingly it was seen as ok to call prepubescent boys it too.

At least I was never a 'Lassie' though!!

Annnyway, on a slightly different note, several years later when I did my Prince's Trust course, the guy in charge was from Derby and liked to call people 'Mucker'/'Mucka'.

Mostly Sir or Ma'am at any business in my area. Women might say honey, love, sweetie or something similar to little kids. Waitresses in restaurants might use something similar too for anyone but probably not in really upscale places. I have noticed in the past year or two that employees really seem to be well coached into being nice to customers, at least at the places I shop. Some of the things they have them doing and saying now is almost annoyingly nice but it beats the alternative I guess.

I use ma'am and sir with everyone, regardless of age.

I like the confused look I sometimes get from little kids when I call them ma'am or sir. It is like, is he talking to me?

Cant say Im really bothered about it, plenty more things to worry or be annoyed about.

If it did bother me I would have to "out matey" them by calling them "Diamond-geezer-matey-bloke-rare-dude", or when they ask "Can I help you, mate?" Ask them for a £20 note. When they say no tell them a real mate would!
