...well, Baggy is, not me....

This is such a supremely good idea that I think it deserves its own thread.

I am sure many of us have a couple of spare saddles sitting about, ones we didn't get on with or whatever. Hows about we pool them? Lend them out to people looking to try out saddles.

To stop folk scoring a free saddle, we could have a borrowers fee. This fee is held centrally (a PayPal account perhaps??) and refunded on return of the saddle. Perhaps deduct postage costs? I dunno, I'm sure we could sort something out.

Ideas? Thoughts?

FWIW I think this is a great idea. F4 was kind enough to let me borrow a toupe to try on a postage paid basis.

I just cannot afford to spend an ever increasing amount of money in the elusive search for the perfect saddle.

I have 3 saddles (one of them is a Terry) which I had planned to sell in the near future, but now I will hang on to see if this idea gathers support.

I think it is a good idea. As Satans budgie posted above we already have a trial in process. How's it going Andy ?

I waas going to start a thread on this, honest! I'd also been thinking about a PayPal account, and there's a vague possibility I (well, Chuffy) can scrounge a few saddles to try. I'm up for co-ordinating and looking after the library, as long as people promise not to hassle me if it takes a few days to post them out sometimes.

Good idea IMO. It would be interesting to see if anyone would loan a saddle to a first time poster

I wouldn't. I think there should be a minimum post count of say 250 to stop any chancers

I think it's a good idea too, I think I'm happy with my saddles and have no spare ones to lend out but it could be really useful to quite a few people.

Just send me all your saddles, I promise they won't mysteriously appear on eBay ;)

I'll see if I can set up a new Paypal account. New posters will either need a reference from a "known" forumer, to bribe me with chocolate, or pay a deposit.

Borrowers will need to pay postage, and maybe a small sum to cover packing costs.

We could have a sticky showing what's in stock, who it's on loan to, and when it's due back. If people don't return them, I'll send my friend Frank round to visit them ;)

Can we figure out some ground rules then?

Would someone (let's say Baggy) have all of the saddles at their place? That is, rather than just coordinating requests for loans. We could have a sticky somewhere that lists all the saddles in the library and their loan status. What about a loan fee? What do others think on that? I was thinking around £20 refundable, maybe less postage and, if we use it, PayPal fees. And if someone wanted to buy the saddle? Would that be allowed? Any other thoughts?

I really think this is such a good idea and has the potential to be very popular, beyond CC and UK wide even.
