I'm superhuman. And so is my wife.

I have two skills which cannot be explained. The first, bear with, I'm six foot one. The length of our bed, from headboard to foot board, requires me position to position myself pretty accurately to ensure that my head and my toes don't touch wood. As a man of a certain age with a historically tiny bladder I'm a night-time 'frequent flyer'. So, get this. If I dont think about it i can get back into bed in the perfect spot. In the dark. Every time. If i do think about it I invariably get it wrong, my head or toes touch the bed and I have to shuffle up or down.

Also, when I'm in the car and the first in line at a red light, hand brake on and with the car in neutral. More often than not I shift into first gear a moment before the lights change. I can't do it if I'm thinking about it. It was one if the kids that pointed it out and i cant explain it.

Mrs Mickle has a super human skill too. On the two or three times in 16 years together ive turned over in bed and nearly clocked her with my elbow she's reached out and caught my arm. In her sleep. Without waking up.

What's your super human skill?

I learnt a second language in adult life. I know that's not unusual, but suddenly finding myself involuntarily thinking in a language other than English felt very, very odd, as if another person had taken up residence in my head. Does that count?

I can breathe through my ears.

I'm bloody minded beyond comprehension.

I'm crap at everything to begin with, a natural at absolutely nothing, but I'm blessed with a will of case hardened steel and once my mind is set on it ill practice, prepare, rehearse, etc, relentlessly until im an expert. Mrs D thinks this may be a slight ASD trait (Mini D is statemented, well on the spectrum) that ive harnessed to become a superpower.

I can ascend or descend a mountain and know the best lines to take without thinking about it. Whilst those around me slip and scrabble about, and reverse after reaching dead ends.

A lot of people with some sort of mental "thing" like ASD and autism learn to cope with it and adapt it to deal with normal life
In many cases is become an advantage in some areas

People with borderline autism are often really good at concentrating on a specific task and learn to use that as an advantage and learn to cope with the other side of things

When I have been on lectures about these things I have wondered if I might be autisic to some extent - but never been tested
The SEN teacher at my first school once gave me a for to fill in and said to "just do it" and she would explain later
It turned out to be a dyslexia test for teenage kids
She said it was not relevant with adults but she said I did so badly that she thought I could be dyslexic

no point in getting tested as there is no advantage at my age - but I do wonder
It would explain my spelling and by inability to realise a word it mis-spelled (Iuse a spell checker on here!!)
