I'm so out of touch with my inner nerd that I thought the Cafe still had a sub-forum for this kind of stuff. Where did it go?

Anyway, my phone, with which I have never really bonded, is on the way out. I know how to get photos, videos etc off it, and can probably figure out how to transfer my contacts if and when I get a new one, but is there a way I can save some (text message) conversations? I can't find them if I connect my phone to my PC as a disk drive. Where are they stored and in what format?

I've quite liked my Wildfire S, apart from it's pathetically small internal memory (after HTC and Vodaphone have both added their bloatware - which cannot be removed or moved to SD card).
Daren't root it because it is my primary business phone.
Might get replaced with a Moto G soon.

I've had the Moto G for a week. As far as I can see, it's an absolute bargain, a complete joy to use. Only downside is that the camera isn't good as some of the higher end phones but then it's less than half the price and it's still better than the camera on my old phone.

For SMS transfer to a new phone, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore&hl=en works brilliantly. If you have contacts synced to your Google account, they'll get copied automatically on the new one.

+1 another one for the Moto G. Had mine a fortnight. If you buy a locked one (best deal around at the moment is Tesco, locked to their network) you can buy unlock codes for a couple of quid on eBay. Very quick, great screen, battery will last all day. No card slot & battery not removable, but best buy on the market despite those drawbacks.

Bloody hell, Claud, you promised me you'd destroy those texts.
I'm having them transferred to a different format for better display...
