Impressed with cycle parking

By trapezium, do you mean the low-profile type of "sheffield" that doesn't quite come up to the top tube (on a typical road or touring bike)? If so, that's what they've got at our Tesco's, not Sheffields proper. But they're good enough.

Some contractors where digging the bike stands out on baker street today, looked like they did a straight replace with the old ones but weather on not positions/gap has changed or just better foundations is unknown.

My local Tesco (Whitehaven) has a sort of all in one Sheffield that is "held down" by one out of four bolts although it's so wobbly I'm sure I could pull the last bolt out the remaining distance if i felt that way inclined. It's also hidden round the back and not undercover. Suffice to say I and others use the railings next to the trolley parking instead.

Whenever I have to go to the Royal Mail parcel depot, it annoys me that they have notices all around the walls forbidding cyclists to come into the office with bicycles, but they have absolutely no place to lock your bike at all. The only place I ever found even remotely close were some railings on top of a brick wall so you have to hoist your cycle to head height, and then somehow lock it whilst maintaining the position. I always take in my cycle and put on an expression that I hope indicates the issue isn't up for discussion.

Local Tesco SM is c*** for it. 3 Spaces in the rain or stick it over the fire exit railings (as I was told by a staff member a couple of years back)

Local RM depot is also a problem. They have a covered stand but that is a) full and  says "staff only"

I noticed that on the South Bank of the Thames there were normal Sheffield stands and child-bike-sized stands. Now I just need a child!

I was at the York Designer Outlet today (junction of A64 and A19, I went in via the back entrance from Naburn Lane), and it suddenly occurred to me how many bike stands they have - if I'd had my camera, I'd have taken a pic. I've been before, but today I remembered this thread. Two long rows, oh, there must be 20 or more Sheffield hoops in each, room for a bike each side, under cover.

Today, two bikes, including mine...

When did they take them out? They'd been there years...

edit: they still appear on google earth imagery of McArthur Glen.

We used to regularly stop off at the Clarks Village in Wells, until we did so with bikes whilst on the West Country way, wanting to buy some odds and ends.

Security Guard would not let us take bikes on site or lock them to any ofthe gates or railings.... followed us round to make sure we didn't as well!

Never been back since

Eh? They still are there, that's my point...

I'd seen them before, but it was only with this thread in mind that I really noticed how many there were.

Now if only the outlet had a discount bike shop! I nearly spent money in the Cadburys factory outlet, but restrained myself.

Oh right d'oh. No they are good, just sadly a good example of being in the wrong place. a 200metre + walk round the corner is not really what the DfT and other things recommend. Shame really as they are a lot better than what passes in many shopping centres.
