The sound from my Samsung LCD TV speakers is okay, but could be so much better, so I've been mucking about feeding it through a HiFi amp and speakers as an experiment. I still want the remote control to work with sound so had used the headphone output feeding into the amp. Worked okay but an out of sync delay was a tad annoying. (My new Humax has a facility to dial this out, but not tried it yet)

But the amp is big and ugly and yet another bit if clutter I'd like to eliminate.

Don't want to go the whole hog of a 'Home Cinema Surround Sound' setup, so I've been thinking of using small monitor speakers, basically upmarket PC speakers I guess. Again plugging into TV headphone socket.

Worth pursuing? Any better options? Any recommendations?

Ta!

PS I'm guessing I could take the sound out of the Humax PVR, but what happens then when I play DVDs, which again I'm guessing don't go through the Humax? (the Humax and DVD player are linked to the TV by separate HDMI cables)

My big brother's got one of these little soundbar things and it actually sounds quite good
My brother-in-law has a different model of soundbar and I was surprised by how good it sounded. I think it was a Yamaha model costing about £200 so it was pretty well built.

I have a whacking great big surround sound system but rarely use it now. I watch TV late at night and don't want to annoy the neighbours so I wear headphones most of the time.
