Do people actually catch a cold from the rain?

Rain's heaviest when it's hail, which is when I look for somewhere for shelter (pub or failing that cake/tea shop). Just rain is... er...just rain.

surely the virus that a cold is would drown?
Seriously though I suspect it simply makes you have either the chills or leaves your 'under the weather' and more prone to getting something if the weather has been very bad, you have gotten cold and run down and under the weather. But on the upside when we spent 12 months on the road, we were both at our healthiest (and happiest) and only once did I actually get a cold and need to take time out (in a cabin) to recover from it and that is only because I'm a severe asthmatic, we were literally due to cross the artic circle that day with a massive climb and long day ahead of us and the cold was affecting my asthma and ability to breath rather badly.
It depends on whether I feel safe. Lots of traffic, spray and poor visibility then I've bailed. Quiet back road and good lights on the bike then I've carried on. I love camping but in heavy, persistent rain I'd probably be looking for a roof over my head. It's good to dry out and start afresh the next day.
