despite my recent reservations about apple getting too big (not to mention some of their suppliers get up to), i have to say that, for customer service at least, some praise is due.

went into work to find the three imacs dead, as well as a time capsule. the culprit was a spike in the electricity that was powerful enough to bypass the surge protection.

took them to the apple store, who, despite correctly working out the cause, are fixing the macs under warrantee and have replaced the time capsule. as the faults were not caused by faulty equipment or workmanship, i think that's pretty good of them; i can see most companies using the power surge as reason not to honour a warrantee claim…

Dont forget they are premium products that someone paid a premium price for so I would expect premium service.

A PC PSU for me to buy would cost around £15 - £20 an Apple Imac PSU would cost around £70 - £120 a big difference.

Good to hear, though at the prices they charge they can afford it.

Too many firms fail to realise how powerful this sort of action is in securing future orders.

My daughter will only have apple phones since the first one she had went wrong, after a couple of years, during an update and the phone was completely dead/useless (caused by an unreliable wifi connection). She walked into the local apple store and walked out 20 minutes later with her phone updated and fully working. A few weeks later her boyfriend's 8 month old apple phone packed up after he dropped it. When the apple store couldn't fix it in store they handed him a new one right there and then.

As others have said its a premium priced product so they can probably afford this kind of service and is part of their perceive added value.

Me, I just buy the cheaper smart phones and just buy a new one when they pack up.

I knew this thread was filled with untruths as soon as Alec said he had three iMacs which were not working. :giggle:

Yes. You pay for service every time. Either at the time you need it or when you buy. I prefer to pay when I need it. Others will differ.
