From TalkTalk technical support as a result of a telephone query yesterday: The fault is with your router madam, now that tiscali has been taken over by TalkTalk, the router you have is no longer compatible. Please phone customer services and ask for a new one.

Me: explains why I want a new router
Customer services: Nothing about your broadband has changed.
Me: But the technical guy said (repeats story for 2nd time).
CS: Well, I can send you out a new wireless router. This is free if you commit to your contract for a further 12 months. If you don't want to do that, it will cost you £30.
Me: That's not fair, you have changed something and you want me to pay...?
CS: Nothing has changed...blah blah
Me: But your technical department said (repeats previous conversation again).....I want a new router without having to pay or extend my contract.
CS: I can't do that.
Me: Can I speak to someone who can?
CS: yes

...on hold for 2 mins...explain story again, they check with the technical log on my account, then say a new one will be in the post this afternoon, no charge, no extension of contract.

So - I got what I wanted in the end, but I'm annoyed that I had to argue for it. Anyone less stroppy would have been tied in for another 12 months or had to pay...

[just wanted to get a bit of a rant off my chest!]

Mind you, this was only an hour ago so we'll see if it a) arrives and b) works!

As long as I breathe, I attack.
reminds me of the time BT took our line for another house, heck i even saw the guy at the box and went to ask him.

He did say he had took a spare line...

I phone BT but as i am a sky customer they say the cannot do anything ..

I phone sky , "are you sure its not your router"...No i have no phone line at all !!

They say they are looking into it .......

4 days goes by and still no landline so i phone them again and i finally find out that they had "mislaid" my original call and nothing had been done about it.

Overall it takes over a week for my landline to get reconnected and i never got a penny back in calls from my payg mobile , reduction in line rental or even an apology .

I wouldn't hold your breath, there was a bloke featured on the TV program Rip Off Britain who had to wait while they took eight attempts to get his router to his house.

We are with TalkTalk until the contract ends and then we are going elsewhere.

OP, I think we may have a spare router around somewhere if yours doesn't arrive, part of the pain getting connected had them sending us a second one as they seem to have a problem connecting their arse to their elbow.

I've got this ongoing thread ( http://www.talktalkmembers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56669 ), in which I was a first told a fault I had reported was not a fault, then that I would have to accept unconditional liability for any expenses incurred and when I amended their terms and conditions in line with my statutory rights (no liability for what I cannot be held liable for...) they then refused to progress work on the fault. So I phoned up to cancel my contract and, lo and behold, there now mysteriously was a fault. They then denied having said something which was clearly visible online and when I pulled them up on it they blamed it on a spell checker, when it is clearly nothing to do with a spell checker.

They're now saying there's been an explosion/electrical damage at the exchange and that BT Openreach were working on it. So I wandered over to the exchange and spoke to some BT Openreach engineers working from that exchange about this explosion. They didn't know anything about any explosion or electrical damage. Why was I not surprised? ''It [the exchange] looks the same as it always does.''

Anyhow I'm drawing up a formal complaint and demanding a release from my contract. It's a good job that there's a local open wireless network set up around here.

Check your contract, when I was with Nildram (may they be plagued with locusts and showers of sh1t) I got so fed up with their policy of traffic shaping I decided to quit and go elsewhere. There then followed a nasty exchange of emails from some poisonous cow in their finance department trying to hold me to a contract that she said had 6 months left to run because I had upgraded my connection speed some 12 months previously. After careful reading of the documentation they sent me at the time I found that there was no facility in it to hold me to 18 months or any other period for that matter. When this was pointed out to them, said piece of poison tried to claim it was only due to an admin error on their part and out of pure good nature they would let me off this time! Yeah, right........ Guess who owns Nildram - TalkTalk.
