Every morning I am faced with the horrible rat run that is Cottage Green (HERE) - easily the worst road surface on my commute. This was made worse a few weeks ago by the appearance of this:

So, I tried reporting it on fillthathole.org.uk, and lo and behold this morning I find this:

OK, so it's not the best repair in the world and I assume that after a few buses have driven over it I'll have to report it again, but I have a warm feeling of social responsibility nonetheless.

It is a good site! Had similar experiences myself.

Shame that filling will only last about a week though

Luck. That is all.

I have had good experiences, but others have been sat for years.

It's has better averages than just calling though - my theory is that because its public, if you had an accident on a pothole you could easily find if it has been previously reported by someone else!

BTW - if there are a cluster of potholes, report them separately. I have had a few cases where they have just done a few and left the rest, yet have marked the whole ticket as completed.

Let's also shout out to the councils that respond

Huge shout to Halton Borough (Runcorn and Widnes)

Hole reported Tuesday evening on Fill that Hole
Fill that Hole report it to the Council on Wednesday morning

Filled by Friday evening!

In fact they've done each of my last 3 reports by the end of the week!

It depends on the local authority. I have reported a number of holes in Salford and in Bolton some weeks ago. Salford were quite prompt in repairing theirs (although one of them looks like a temporary repair). Bolton haven't lifted a finger yet.

There is a nasty hole immediately beyond traffic lights at the junction of the Epping Road and Theydon Road in Essex, and it is bang on the cycling line that cyclists who are not riding in primary would take when moving away from the lights. It has been unfilled for two years that I know of. I have just reported it using "Fillthathole" so I will be interested to see what, if anything, happens.

Just had a response back: the section of road I reported is due for maintenance "in this financial year".

*sigh*

Well all you've got to do now they've acknowledged it's existence and their reluctance to take it seriously, is ride right into it, wreck your bike and seriously hurt yourself, then lie back and revel in the sweet, sweet, taxpayer-funded compensation.
