J.P has never been adversed to saying what he feels, but the cynic in me thinks that as Top gear has come in for a bit of bad press recently, and as the show is scripted, JP was bought in to provide a small bit of balance to the program. I could be wrong of course.

As long it wasn't scripted as suggested and John Prescot wasn't just brought on for entertaiment value, i have to agree with Mr Paul.
After all these years he still sticks up for his own descisions however stupid they may seem to JC, even standing up and challenging the audience. Apparently there was some heavy editing as JP was giving JC a pretty hard time back. John Prescot might not be the best orator in the box, but sometimes you do wonder if we need more MP's like him.
Thought Boris Johnson was quite good as well when he appeared.
Do think the next series may be the last though.

I really like Prescott. I thought I'd hate him after he punched that protester, but oddly found myself sympathising and even liking him more. He's been nicknamed Two Jags in the past, but he knows his stuff on road safety, I've seen him correct reporters several times and give a level response. The only bad thing I ever thought he was involved in was Compulsary Purchase Orders for houses, and I think even he accepted that went wrong.

Him and Tony Benn, even Tebbit has talked a lot of sense. You can have respect for these people for saying what they honestly think.

Well I never thought I'd say that!

But standing up to Clarkson and a shed full of petrolheads, and giving some facts about road safety and speed, deserves some respect.

Lol at "petrolheads", why do people insist on creating a divide between motorists and cyclists? It's unnecessary. In any case, many of the audience are there because they enjoy the program, it's really not a cult show for people who are obsessed with cars anymore... Also, you may have noticed the audience were on his side for some of the issues.

I agree with Clarkson on the 30mph matter though, it's ridiculous.

Yeah, good point. There was a lot of nodding with JP's facts and JC was looking a bit fummoxed a couple of times because of it.

I met him once and whether or not you agree with his principles, ideas, personality etc he took a lot of flack from the public without flinching, the man has very thick skin.

Is this on the latest Top Gear on iplayer?

Having not seen it, my opinion of Prescott is this: He is a parasite that will do absolutely anything to stay in the media's lime light, whether it is to reduce himself to take part in one of the most desperate adverts on TV or to whine about Bulimia. His interviews which treat him as a political expert state the bleeding obvious, and there were many people in his party who could have done his job a whole lot better than him.

The one thing I will grant him is that he made good entertainment on PM question time now and again with Hague

Um, it's possible to be a cyclist and a petrolhead you know. I'd say that about 80% of the keen cyclists I know well as friends are also petrolheads to some degree or other. Including having raced motorbikes and cars, owning several classic or vintage cars, or just generally loving tinkering with mechanical stuff of all sorts.

I have a sneaking respect for John Prescott, as least he lived life before he took to politics, unlike most of the present lot*. And an egg in the back of the neck at close range is probably very painful and not to turn round and lash out would seem rather odd I reckon. That he made contact was probably a lucky punch.

I would like it to be impossible to be an MP until you've had a certain number of years experience in a real job - by which I mean not a job related to politics.

When he was in the Merchant Navy he was quite a good boxer. Apart from thumping the egger, didn't he hit a member of a band at an awards ceremony after he was drenched in water? Chumbawumba, wasn't it?

Nothing more than a criminal thug, who was up to his fat neck in the expenses scandel who cheated on his wife with his private secretary..
