....no, not that slightly fey high speed profession that goes under the name of Effwun. Real motor-racing, which, like almost everything else that is good in the world, resides in the USA. Motor-racing which involves good ol’ boys, some in their fifties and sixties, driving in close proximity (‘the length of your lips' never seemed more appropriate) at 200mph plus on tight courses watched by 200,000 people drinking beer. That’s entertainment. Give the people what they want, charge them a few bob, and spare us all the rubbish about leading edge technology.

And forget the ‘after you Claude, Lewis or Jenson’ business. If the guy’s in your way, you send him airborne. You see, these cars are aerodynamic miracles travelling forwards, but a bit like paper planes going backwards. As a chap called Brad Keselowski found out the other day.

Last year Keselowski rear-ended a chap by the name of Edwards. The first clip illustrates this. Edwards took exception to this, and, having pondered the matter for ten months, took his revenge by rear-ending Keselowski. Deliberately, as he freely admitted after the event. Edwards has been put on probation for three races, not because he rear-ended Keselowski, which was perfectly legal, but because he did it deliberately. Probation, mind you, not suspension. The two combatants face each other again next week, for what promises to be a fun day out...

Nice! Slightly grating commentary aside, that's pretty impressive footage.

After watching the F1 GP today, dull as ditchwater on a boring barren track (as most new F1 tracks are today, Sepang-dull, the new Korean track looks... dull) then Nascar looks more exciting than a room full of lusty nymphos in comparison.
There is good motor racing to be had, and like many a good sport, takes place on 2 wheels... Motorcycles mostly.
Alternatively, for a tenner me and the kids can go to Standlake arena for 6 hours of wild and exciting motorsport (Stock cars, hot rods and banger racing). It's chav-city, but it's live, exciting, real and spectacular.... Cheap burgers and cheap coke make it a fun afternoon out.

I agree. For my money banger racing is it. Doesn't take up a lot of room, is pleasantly noisy, lots of overtaking, Having said that NASCAR is pretty spiffy. Three and four side by side, very high speeds (220 is not unknown, which is better than Effwun) and drivers who do more than witter on about Peewun and understeer and the 'team doing a great job'.

There is more excitement on one lap of an oval Nascar race then there is in a whole season of F1. Nascar is not just about ovals, there are racing and road tracks also.

Yeah, and you get some great drivers names in Nascar, Dale, Rusty, Brett, Brad, Travis, Randy and err... Jeff.

What I like about the Banger racing is that you can get up-close and personal, you're close to the fast and furious racing, no pit-lane passes required and uyou end-up wearing the dust, dirt, oil and grime of the racing on your face when you leave... for free!
