In praise of rhubarb

It is growing nicely in the garden, about 7 inches tall now. Plus, I found some of last years cooked rhubarb in the freezer so I had that on my porridge this morning. Yummy. Anyone else like it, or, are the legions on the forum against the stuff?

Adore it. My dear departed mother used to make a fantastic rhubarb crumble. Dearest MIL makes a rhubarb crumble but nowhere near as nice as me mams.

A large portion of rhubarb crumble covered with a generous dollop of custard is the second best pudding in the history of mankind; second only to gooseberry crumble and custard!

Haven't tried it in porridge, though.

I've inherited some rhubarbs, how long does forcing usually take? I have a spare bin as of next week.

Once you have covered the rhubarb with a bucket or such like when the crown is sprouting, it should take about 8 weeks until it is ready to be picked. If this is the first year of this particular crown you shouldn't really pick it as the crown need to get established.

Stewed with ice cream

Stewed and liquidised instead of apple sauce with pork.

Love it. We used to scrump it as kids and eat it raw, dipped into the sugar bowl.

Ours is poking its little head up out of the ground now. It was one of the best crops last year, we got loads off it. Some of it even went to one of my friends to make rhubarb wine.

Lighlty cook the rhubarb in a bit of water with a bit of sugar. Bung it on your cornflakes/porridge/shreddies etc... yum yum
