The sad truth is that Australia has no great cricketers left. He was the last - a great batsman, a diligent and more than capable fielder and a scathing self-critic.
The game will now be dominated by India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Diet, communication and money. Lots of money. Good luck to them and their fervent supporters, willing on their National heroes. Maybe it has something to do with 'everyday life' & the family structure being a 'team game' in the countries mentioned? I don't know.
India will be the first to fall - it's all getting a bit la-la and
'Westernised...' Pakistan have to shake off the match fixing thing, and Sri Lanka are just dynamite at the moment.
I remember watching Abid Ali trundling in to bowl, Bishen Bedi wearing a turban to bowl (heaven's above - the 'egg and tomato brigade' at Lords were reminded of the Raj!), Zaheer Abbas thrashing the cover off a ball and scoring 200 or so every now and then, and, since Ranatunga and his merry band hit the Test Match stage, the Sri Lankan players have battered and smashed their way through a lot of cricket - very successfully!
It's great!
Meanwhile, Shane Warne and Kev Petersen are forces to be reckoned with on Twitter, only pausing for a photo shoot or feature in Hello etc...
