I saw some coverage on the NW200 a few years ago. Watching someone highside on the exit from a "hairpin" (actually a mini roundabout) and going over the wall into someone's front garden while his bike ended up on the path outside the house was a novelty.
Yes, the safety precautions include bales of straw . It's excellent and well worth going to see. The coast roads they ride along are great (for non-motorised cycling as well) and you see champion riders walking around with mere mortals after the races. It's great craic as the missus says.
I'm sure I saw a caravan park along the front near the start / finish when I was watching it on TV. There were some big old static caravans overlooking the "track". Wonder how far in advance you have to book those?
