Went to see a Scottish folk singer, Hector Gilchrist, with Mrs 3BM last night.

He entertained us with stories of Burns's life and sang a selection of his songs with guitar and also unaccompanied.

Highlights for me were 'A Man's a Man for a' that' and 'Ae Fond Kiss'.

If you've not heard RB songs, and to my shame I don't know of many, they're a real treat - wonderful stuff!

I certainly never thought I'd enjoy Coming Through the Rye again. (Go away Fnaar!)

I've never tried that. Don't you get margarine everywhere?

Went to a Burns night at a neighbours house some years ago. Was told beforehand to dress up in kilt etc... specifically also told just grab stuff from your wardrobe, don't go hiring anything etc etc. Was also told "we get hammered on good whisky" etc etc. So, I dressed up as a comedy Scotsman using a tartan skirt that once belonged to the Mother-in-Law, wig, comedy tam o'shanter etc. Went round, only to find absolutely everyone was in 'proper' gear, and nobody had a sense of humour, and "getting hammered" meant having 2 very small measures of whisky. I decided to take the original instructions to heart, and proceeded to drink more whisky than all the others put together. I had a good time, but I'm not sure about the rest of them. We haven't been invited back to subsequent Burns nights, funnily enough.
