Independence Day ride around London 3rd July

This is something I started thinking about at least 6 months ago, initially with Andrij in mind due to his US (ish) background and American Independence Day on 4th July. Then I was reminded of the bit towards the end of the Will Smith Independence Day film, when the President said it's everyone's Independence Day.

So this will be a gentle, educational pootle around the centre of London looking at the statues of the great and good (and those not so good) who in one way or another have contributed to freedom or liberation from oppression (and bizarrely in some cases, adding to oppression of others at the same time). You'll be surprised at some of the things you'll discover.

Starts from Hyde Park Corner at 09.30. Probably no more than a couple of hours. I'll sort out a .gpx file at some point, once I've sorted out the order.

Ohh, the day after the winchester ride..

But more to the point... The film... Pure cheese! :-D

Rightio, your ride... Sounds great. Beers at the end??

As long as it includes 27y1jk9.jpg and the Admiralty Arch nose, I might come and play... until Andrij buys the drinks - at perhaps , The Wilton Arms... the most English of English pubs. We could start with this.

This needs to be explored, surely, given such an impending auspicious day?

Coincidentally, I finished reading 'Independence Day' by Richard Ford - on Monday. A hard read, and a struggle to the end, but I did it - with patience.
'The Lay of the Land' is next to fall under my eyes. He's an interesting writer.

will we be fighting off the aliens then?

I was thinking more along the lines of a can of PBR for each rider.

I would be more likely to have some nice bourbon with me, perhaps a whole bottle rather than just a flask...

"A contrasting counterpoint of sharp texture and flowing sweetness is evident at the first sip of this historic brew. A slowly increasing hoppiness adds to the interplay of ingredients, while the texture smooths out by mid-bottle. The clear, pale-gold body is light and fizzy. Medium-bodied Blue Ribbon finishes with a dusting of malts and hops.

Even the US is not immune from JillyGooldenism! What happened in 1977 Andrij? 18 million barrels!
