What a great day. Thank you so much Flying Dodo. It was just perfect. I cannot believe how many times I must have passed so many of these monuments absolutely oblivious to all of them.
It was of course just fabulous to be out on two wheels on an Independent Sunday London Ride at last. I started early and did a quick trip up Swaines Lane just to see if I could do it - yipeee I did! Thank you physiotherapy department of C&W Hospital! On my route back to Hyde Park I found Becs on her new wheels "making her way down Baker Street" (© Mr Rafferty I believe) and we made our way to HPC together. The rest is all in pictures (including several taken by Arallsopp who has the advantage that he can take one hand from his handlebars and take pics whilst being on the move (not something I can do!)
Seeing the statue of Gandhi in Woburn Place really hit a nerve, particularly after the military men we had seen prior to this finale. Regents Park refreshments were just what the Dodo ordered after which we all headed in different directions. I did a farewell lap with Becs, Red Jedi - we lost Teef and Charlie B. Then the excitement of being out on my wheels prevented me from leaving the Outer Circle until I had completed 10 full circuits. I also struggled leaving the Giraffes in the Zoo - my all time favourite animal. Three of them were out saying hello!
I am a little tired at this point but glowing on the inside as my Cateye thingamejib says I have down 73 miles today. Educational, entertaining and in fine company. Thank you for pulling that together.
A truly memorable day.
