Isn't that what they're supposed to be used for? "I am a hazard"

I think a bit impatient and, other than using his mirrors, I think the van did the right thing. He's reversing to the right and, in doing so, the front would have to swing out to the left. Fortunately, your awareness was high enough and the speed was low enough that no harm was done, though.

Oh, I hate that. I'd far rather someone actually indicates the way they're going; hazard lights seem to imply 'I'm about to do something, it might be something very stupid, but its okay, I've got my hazards on!'.
Me too on that! IMO, using hazards gives no indication of intention, they are just a warning that the driver doesn't have the wit to figure out which indicator to use.

Yes it does - it only means that the indicator is working, nothing more. He was wrong, but I think a little impatience on your part also. With so little room, a bit more caution would have been a good thing.

Theres a lot of room to the right of that van, its a passing point. I accept that I could have waited, but there is quite a bit of space there.

Not impatient. Driving being stupid. Did they indicate right, to turn into a junction on the left?

My Dad got knocked off his motorbike in a when someone indicated right, then changed their mind and they didn't check their blind spot/mirror before turning the other direction. That was in no way his fault.
