that's completely the driver's fault, the HC in this country at least is remarkably clear about opening car doors
all the rider can do is allow for the failure on the car occupants' part
That might be the one accident I've never had but by god did I near miss it a few months ago, I was going briskly down a cycle lane that runs contra a single lane of traffic (Leytonstone one way) and a car parked on the curb opened their door across the lane, it was a bloody barn door, nothing that sheer reflexes got me round it but if anything had been coming up the road it would have been unpleasant
that car is always there when I pass int he morning, it pretends to be broken down but is unloading supplies to a small shop I think
