On the other hand we shouldn't forget the saying “New ideas have three stages over time…laughable, controversial and self-evident” Arthur Schopenauer 1788-1860. We can all think of many examples of crazy ideas that came good in time.

While I’m not a fan of the current helmet’s look, I can see the potential for considerably increased impact protection.

I can remember – not too many years ago – when motorcyclists laughed at the idea of wearing airbag jackets. Very few bought the early airbags. Nowadays, airbag jackets are increasingly popular among motorcyclists; it’s a rapidly inflating market.
