Inner tube size question?

Have just taken delivery of some Schwalbe Marathon Winter tyre - the ones with the studs in so my commute will be safe(r) riding if I encounter any ice.

I've just replaced my 26 x 1.5 original tyres with 26 x 1.75 the funky new studded ones.

I thought I'd replace the inner tubes too as the old ones were filled with slime and the new tyres have the Kevlar belt thing - so new tubes would save a bit of weight given the Schwalbe Winters are quite heavy.

Anyway, after I'd replaced the tubes I realised that one of them was sized at 26 x 1.5 but the tyres are 26 x 1.75.

My question to the Oracle is does the 0.25 matter and am I ok to use this "wrong size" tube?

You'll be fine.

Often the tube'll have a range printed on it like 26 x 1.5-2.2 or something similar.

Comparing 700x23c Gatorskins to 700x35c Marathon winters Someone who is normally doing about 20-23mph flat no wind is managing 17-20mph flat with a bit of wind assistance in the cold & wet.

As your question, your 'tubes will have a range as said, over sizing tubes a little bit doesn't cause much of a problem if the tubes are fairly heavy but on very light tubes you can get excessive 'natural' pressure loss & thus tearing if you don't keep topping the pressure up on a regular enough basis.

I can confirm that is exasctly what happens. My inner tube, 19 C, inside 28 C tyre did just that - no matter as it is on the turbo trainer.

After I fitted them I checked the inner tube boxes. The front tube was a 1.5" - 2.25" and teh back tube was up to 1.5." Have been out on the bike today and it seemed to be fine. So I will leave it as is unless I get problems.

And next time, I will remember to check the tube sizes before I fit them!
