I got a flat on saturday but just put in a new tube and carried on riding however ive just blew up my repaired tube and its inflating unevenly is this normal ?Is it due to not having a tyre around it to even out the air?

Yep, it's just down to slightly differing wall thickness and the air pressure taking the easy route, sometimes you get some proper balloon party animals  as long as it holds air once inside the tyre it'll even out.
