Installing Adobe PDF reader

I am having trouble installing a PDF reader.

I can download it from Adobe but when I set it installing it gets to about 41% and stops. The pop up says the installation has timed out.

Any suggestions?

Fantastic, installed and working. I can now read the manual that I printed out last year and now can't find!

I was going to suggest that too and I still will!

So ... I suggest that you uninstall Acrobat Reader and install Foxit Reader instead. I used to get really annoyed by how often Adobe updated Reader. Most of the updates were security fixes which made me think that the software must be riddled with dodgy bugs if it needs patching that frequently!

I have got on really well with Foxit, so I'm sticking with it.

Never used Foxit. In my line of work I mainly deal with the mainstream apps.

Anyway, the problem NT had was with the "downloader" that you get from their website. Basically all it does is automatically download the link I posted and run it. Usually causes more trouble than its worth though.

<rant>Why write a program to install your program!? The worst part is, you wouldnt find that FTP link on their website. They expect everyone to use the downloader.</rant>

Having sung the praises of Foxit ...

I thought I'd just check that my version was up-to-date - it wasn't! I don't know why the upgrade wasn't picked up because i had set FR to check once a day. It would be a coincidence if the software had been updated in the past few hours.

Niggle #1 - update wasn't downloaded automatically.
Niggle #2 - when I installed the update, the software decided that my desktop was untidy and rearranged all of my icons so now I can't find anything!
Niggle #3 - having done the update, I checked again and there is an update to that update! It only fixes an intermittent user interface problem, so I'll wait and see if my system suffers from it.
