Installing AVG free edition

I accept I may be being a bit on the slow side here [thanks to all those techies who helped me out last time] but I am getting hit with the upgrade banner from AVG giving me the choice of paying or just upgrading the freeby. I'm sure I'm not the only one to be getting this, but of course when you click on the free upgrade icon it just goes to the pay only option. What do I have to do to upgrade to the latest free version?

Not to sure?
Don't bother, go with Avast instead! I have been with AVG for years and the latest update is shite and is causing all sorts of problems with the Windows firewall.

So I have now switched over to Avast, which is also free.

I couldn't get on with AVG at all - slow, clunky and filled my PC with treacle.

I decided the small cost of good software was worth it. Kaspersky is simple to install and run, keeps everything out and is about £20 a year if you wait for their offers.

They don't want to make it easy but scout out the whole web page which opens up, there will be an option to update the free version on there. That'll take you to another page giving you the chance to pay for it, but again there's a free option if you look hard enough.

Yup +1 for Avast - the only problem is the slight delay every morning as an update is downloaded otherwise it stays firmly in the background until needed.

Thanks guys, have just downloaded AVG and all seems to be well. Wish you hadn't mentioned avast as that just confuses the issue though I may take a peek. Has anyone ever done a poll on here to see what protection most prefer? Is there an unbiased review site for anti virus stuff?

Not a review site, but it does test most of the anti virus products for effectiveness.
