Prices depend upon what you want.

Repatriation of you in the case of an accident.
Repatriation of you and the bike in the case of a accident.
Treatment in private health care facilities instead of state run health care facilities.
Cancellation cover.
Theft cover.
How much excess you are prepared to tolerate.
Accidental damage cover.

You are likely to find that annual cover could well work out to be cheaper than 90 day cover.

If you haven't got an EHIC card then you must get one.

90 days will limit your options (most policies, including annual policies, have a single trip limit of something like 28 days.

The policy from DownUnder Insurance looked OK - although fairly useless for theft. There's also the British Miuntaineering Council.

That article is a pretty useful survey. I agree with them that insurance against theft is too expensive (unless you can put it on your household contents policy).

By way of comparison DownUnder are quoting between £27 and £47 for a three months backpacker policy (which does cover cycle touring). Theft cover IRRC was a paltry £250. Specialist theft insurance policies cost about 10 per cent of the value of the bike (or at least they did the last time I looked).
