Insurance - which company?

Previously I've insured my bikes through the household policy but I now have a quite expensive bike and think that it justifies having its own cover.

Which companies do people use to insure their bikes OR does anyone have any specific recommendations?

I went with Cycleplan. They seem reasonable and I researched quite a few before choosing them.

I'm with protect your bubble. Others to look at are CycleGuard and ETA.

Don't just look at the price, make sure the policy conditions match the cover you need and that you can comply with any conditions such as which locks you can use and where you can store/leave your bike. These will vary between the companies.

One of my bikes is covered by my Household policy (the AA), stating its value. The other which goes out more is covered by Veloguard Triathlon Insurance. Both are covered for the same amount but I hope never to claim on either; so can't tell you how the companies perform on that front.

Nothing other than my own assumptions that they might get a little awkward about adding a "single expensive item that can be away from the house" to the policy. I'm happy to be convinced otherwise.

No reason why they should be awkward. With mine any bike over £500 value then they need make/model and serial number; they weren't interested in details of bikes under £500.

Give them a call; mine were easy about that but I dare say claiming away from the house would be awkward, hence my cycloguard insurance for my other bike. M&S is supposed to be good, they cover you away from home for any item (doesn't have to be named); unfortunately they won't insure my current location.

It was only the over £1000 away from the house that I thought might be an issue. The only time I leave my bike out of my sight when I'm not at home is locked to a rack with a gold secure lock in a locked compound surrounded by CCTV on an MOD site.

im with NFU and have my allez specified for £1k on a section that is way from the home cover.

no issues with locks etc but if your gonna use it for racing you need to let them know. they do use a company called sbs for replacement/repair so unsure what will happen you did have to claim

I have £1500 of bike cover with Ecclesiastical home insurance which covers two bikes up to £750 each. I think it added £22 to my contents insurance. I have cover for a few weeks abroad and when it's away from my home. They don't ask for a specific security rating for the lock. Will they pay up? Who knows?

My household insurance wouldn't cover any bike over £500 but will insure my carpenters tool (all risks) Bloody bonkers if you ask me as ive had my tools nicked about 9 times . Ive stopped them getting nicked about the same amount of times mind you :gun:
