How many of us commuting have insurance to deal with things such as accidents with 3rd parties?

And what service do you use , if any?

CTC and British Cycling - I'm with BC and they are currently handling a case for me.

I'd say it's an essential.

I consider it essential, both for my own financial security should my body or bike need repairing, and also from a liability point of view should I ever be held responsible for an incident. I've been with Cycleguard for a few years, fully comprehensive for ~£50 a year.

I get it through CTC. I do go out with the club, but if I was to stop I would pay for it myself. I think third party is essential. A little mistake can cost a lot with modern cars.

What is the situation if me (uninsured) hits a car, damages it and its my fault ?

You're liable.

There is a pot of money for uninsured drivers, so maybe it'd get paid through that. I don't know. A lot easier just to pay £20 (or whatever CTC costs) a year.

I am also looking at insurance and am considering the London Cycling Campaign membership which includes it. Any views on LCC vs. CTC vs. BC?

I'd have a look through all the policies individually on their websites to see which you prefer.

it's probably essential that i take out cycle insurance when my new BTW bike arrives next week....as i understand it if the bike is nicked ( and it is worth a grand ) then i will still have to pay monthly instalments for a year  Given that I use the bristol to bath cycle path everynight and bikes have been taken/stolen here i will def do next week....i've even had stones thrown at me...and i don't wear a helmet ( but that's another debate!)

I got a quote, £17 per year for 1 million liability, I am thinking my bike is covered by my house policy so I just need the liability bit ?
