I know that the CTC offer cyclists insurance, but are there any other sources of insurance (I'm thinking 3rd party and personal injury insurance) out there for cyclists, particularly those who are using bike as transport rather than leisure?

CTC or BC - about £36......just pay it...

Why...accidentally knock off a wing mirror....£300-£500.....?

Do it...........benefits to you....well..you have the legal assistance of some of the best cycle solicitors should you get in a mess...

TBH, I wouldn't go anywhere near any other insurance than CTC or BC........

I chose BC as I used to race.....and paid full membership for years... just scares the poo out of the other party when you mention you are insured by the same folk that run the Olympic Squad... (well a little exaggeration)............

CTC and BC both offer what you are looking for as an integral part of membership. You don't have to be a cycle tourist to join the CTC and you don't have to race to join British Cycling. But both offer you what you require. I'm in BC and I'm as far from a racing cyclist as you can possibly get. But I won't cycle without membership of one or the other purely for the third party insurance/legal assistance.

Not me, but my friend did - he reports excellent service and most of the work was conducted while he spent the month in hospital recovering. It took 2 yrs to get the money, but he got a nearly 6 figure payout, having been taken out on a training ride by a car and trailer.

I'm a CTC member and claimed after being knocked off. Again, it took a while to get the money but the CTC legal department were excellent and I ended up with several £k in compensation.

I've been with CycleGuard for a few years now. Approximately £40 for third party, theft, personal injury and legal costs cover. (Fortunately) never had to claim, so I have no idea what they're like to deal with, but their pre-sale attitude seemed really good.

I'm with BC - silver.. it helps riding knowing that you have the 'backup' should the unforeseen happen out there..
just as long you get witnesses (reliable)... photos ...police attendance etc etc

Sorry, I'm being dull here..but...

The CTC site describes the cover as third party but specifically excludes you or your "employee" (odd) from claiming for injury to yourself. So If I crash and say...brake a leg, do I claim on the other parties insurance and do CTC oversee that and gain compensation for me as their actual cover precludes my own injury.

Or am I reading this wrong. I should state that I havent had to insure myself for any vehicle in decades (always had a company car or company insurance) so am a bit behind the times here I'm afraid.

If you crash and break a leg 'cos you were riding like a tit and no one else involved.. no ones gonna pay up unless you have other insurance accident cover.. which probably cost more than an arm and leg
more to the point if some thoughtless driver involves you to accident and break a leg then your insurer will hopefully pursue them to hell and back and then back to hell again..
lucky you do dont have to fork out for insurance as well and yes by the style of your flares (a little bit too loon) you are well behind the times..

In your opinion.

In mine however many people take themselves far too seriously, forget that this is an internet forum (and hence is by very nature full of opinion and personality) and think they are somehow in control of who and how people post.

Not you of course, your far to smart and not at all "loon"

Thanks for the insurance advice, i'll take that...but you can keep your personal opinion to yourself, not one want's it.

Have a great day.
