Personal opinion on an internet forum is not an option to disable .

Or your own punctuation? It doesn't normally get in the way of understanding, for any of us.

In your opinion.

In mine however many people take themselves far too seriously, forget that this is an internet forum (and hence is by very nature full of opinion and personality) and think they are somehow in control of who and how people post.

Not you of course, your far to smart and not at all "loon"

Thanks for the insurance advice, i'll take that...but you can keep your personal opinion to yourself, not one want's it.

Have a great day.

Insurance:
The cheapest bike insurance I've found is with EnL who seem to offer the same coverage as CTC but at quite a bit less.

the Ethical Transport Association are also worth looking into. There are plenty of others - but I'm not sure how many have links to solicitors used to handling bike cases.

Sorry, I'm being dull here..but...

The CTC site describes the cover as third party but specifically excludes you or your "employee" (odd) from claiming for injury to yourself. So If I crash and say...brake a leg, do I claim on the other parties insurance and do CTC oversee that and gain compensation for me as their actual cover precludes my own injury.

Or am I reading this wrong. I should state that I havent had to insure myself for any vehicle in decades (always had a company car or company insurance) so am a bit behind the times here I'm afraid.

I think your query has already been answered, but in short, third party insurance is always to cover you against being claimed against, so in the event of you being at fault in an RTC, the third party cover will meet your costs - at least some, if not all, it depends upon the amount you are covered for.

If someone else causes you to crash, then, assuming they have insurance, it should be straightforward enough to claim on their insurance. Your cover may still be important here though as you may be able to get legal assistance in claiming, especially if the other party are being difficult, or if they are not insured.

The figures for uninsured drivers are typically about 9% on average, although a recent survey showed in London 13% of drivers have no cover, 12% in Merseyside, & 11% in Manchester.

Thanks Jonathan.

I was thrown as there have been a number of posts about the CTC insurance (and such like) providing lengthy legal assistance to injured riders and more often than not, generating compensation.

Yet when I reviewed the CTC cover policy, it was just a straight "Third Party" cover that specified very clearly that it did not cover ME or my employees, so could not see where the legal assistance part fell in.

If I'm right, the CTC scheme covers you for damage you may cause to another vehicle.

In the event of them causing damage to you (or your bike) you need to HOPE they are insured and then fund action against them, again hoping someone like CTC covers the cost of this.

Hence my original confusion and concern that insurance may have "moved" on a bit without me since I last had to buy a policy (I can't recall the last time I've ever had to make any type of vehicle insurance claim).
