Standalone bike insurance based on the value of my best bike, even through the CTC, costs more than my Home Contents and Buildings combined! You don't have home contents insurance to add the bike to? If not I'd be inclined not to bother; paying insurance for 2 years will probably cost you as much as the value of the bike.

They insure it on the cost of a replacement, which is the cost of a new identical bike or an equivalent... so because you bought it 2nd hand for a knock down price is irrelevant... i think.

When you add a bike to your home contents insurance what sorts of conditions do the insurance company normally apply to how you store the bike? For example do they allow you to store it in a locked garden shed?

I've never bothered with insuring my possessions apart from car and house. Despite a couple of small burglaries, that has saved a fortune.
