I got my commuter serviced at the beginning of October, came back gleaming, new chain and new cassette.
I haven't washed the bike or even oiled the chain since

Only time I clean my commuter is just before I take it into the bike shop. This time of the year it looks like it has been dragged out of the canal.

I did wipe the chain down last week though, it was a getting a bit noisy.

Bike abuser.
Haha, a bike mechanic once called me that: I had posted a picture of the bearings falling out of my wheel
Filthy urchins the lot of you.

The commuter is given a quick wash each evening when it's been wet. Wasn't tonight as it's dry and the tracks weren't muddy.
I don't have a garage, certainly I'm not washing the bike in the garden in winter!
Anyway, the garden hose is away now, water switched off so the pipe doesn't freeze ... no can do

A mate of mine used to work in a bike shop. Over 10 years ago they used to charge £20+ extra if a dirty bike was brought in to be serviced. (They were not willing to work on a filthy bike, and they were also not a bike cleaning charity!)

They do that here too..only it's £35.00. my bike was clean but part of the service is a deep clean of the drivetrain - I think by some sonic something or other ...it was ok before but now it's gleaming

I do wash the commuter before putting it in for service, but not too thoroughly, after all the main components are going to be changed ^_^
