Well, write it down boy ......
I've been lent a Humber catalogue from 1898 which lists their models. Actually it's more than a catalogue as it has tips on adjusting things. There are many interesting tit bits, several configurations of bikes, tandems, trikes etc even a Pedersen. There's a page on a pneumatic brake, which has a bulb which you squeeze to activate and a valve to release. Reminds me of the time I visited the Cycle Museum in Llandrindod Wells (well worth a visit), we like to think that nowadays we are trying out different things, but the Victorians have already tired it all, only the materials are different. I particularly like the way they put as used by "HRH Prince of Wales" or "The Marquess of Queensbury".
I've posted a selection of pages.

There is very little genuinely new. Most things have been tried before.
