Everybody has different experiences with ISPs. Personally, I would rather eat my own right arm that return to the clutches of TalkTalk or PlusNet. They really didn't seem to give a monkey's when they screwed up and left us without a service for days on end. Currently I have BT Infinity. It's not cheap but it seems to be fairly reliable so far.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
I'd recommend ....Virgin Media.

They're expensive, but the broadband is quick, and has regularly got quicker for no extra money, and the online service good when things go wrong, which they do rarely. And whenever we've rung them up they've been helpful.

If you haven't had an upgraded cable modem for a while, talk to them. We had ours upgraded for free a couple of years ago.

I have the same problem sometimes: it's due to our compuret having too many cookies: found this out in the Virgin user forum.
Try delete your cookies, your virgin mail will download.
Also, have you noticed that you can download your mail on your phone without problems?

BT for me as well. There are cheaper alternatives, but BT has been ultra reliable and with the added bonus of BT Hotspots which is very useful if you are out and about a lot.
My missus moans about the cost of BT, but I'm very reluctant to change.

We've moved to Virgin with no landline or tv, the router doesn't seem to be very strong, live in a 2 bed terrace and it struggles to stay connected when I'm Zwifting in the kitchen 2 rooms away and very inconsistant with our mobiles when upstairs.
Now tv boxes work though with only the occasional drop out on the one in the bedroom.
But it is good when connected, I may move the router somewhere else.

I would never go with sky again, had no internet for full year, they tried to send BT engineers at our cost after spending hours on the phone to them them mysteriously getting cut off, and then charged us for the equiptment when we cancelled at the end of the 12 month contract even though they explicitly told us there would be no charge as we'd done a year's contract....... And breathe.....
(p.s I know Now tv is Sky)

I have BT ADSL Broadband too in a different place, and it's as flaky as a very flaky thing. Every time they do some work on a nearby line the router needs to be rebooted. The landline hasn't worked for months and I can't be bothered to get it sorted. It's also expensive, and they are sneaky buggers about upselling - BT Sport was quietly added free before my account was quietly "upgraded" to get it at a "discount". Fortunately I was looking at the bill and could get it removed, but I shouldn't need to do that.

If the email address is a Virgin Media one (or, as in our case an ntlworld one) it's not portable. It's worth the hassle of changing the email so that it's either a gmail or similar account or else (for some money but not a huge amount) buying your own domain name.
