I am sad to report that an area of the UK - hither to quiet and unassuming - has been invaded this morning.

Very cool. If a few Cybermen had landed in the early 70's, it might have saved a whole lot of trouble...

I was at an Archeaology conference in Cambridge once, and at break time we academics were all standing around in a ground floor room, drinking tea and networking. Then a Dalek went past the window....

Cue a lot of "OOOOOoooo!" and staring. The less cool of us dashed outside to see it, the rest just tried to look as if they didn't care.

It was a very good Dalek, part of a science festival that was on at the same time. It was on little casters, and the chap inside was scooting it around with his feet. And shooting people with a waterpistol blaster....

I hoped you might enjoy them. I wish I had been at the City Hall when this was going on - I cried laughing at the video footage.

And yes, an invasion by the Cybermen might have given us all something to think about in the 1970s.

Maybe we would have come together as a community to 'knock their melts in, like' - before resuming business as usual!

I'll probably have to look at the video tomorrow on the work computer, mine is too elderly to cope...
