I'm sure that makes some sense to someone... just not to me. Sorry I can't help.

Depends on the route tomtoms given you.
I have only limited knowledge of the IoW and didnt venture as far as Yarmouth, but what i did see was some fantastic scenery (and some quite hilly sections) between The Needles / Freshwater, along the south coast to Ventor and Shanklin..i though that'd be a nice ride, albeit the long way round for you.

Logically the A3054 to Newport would be the most likely route (havnt used that road myself), but Newport itself wasnt very appealing (to look at or ride through)..and quite busy.
From Newport to Brading ?...there some probably quiet B roads, but then i used some of the B roads further north, quite hilly, bendy with lots of blind sections that i didnt think were particually appealing for cycling along either.

Otherwise its the A3056 from Newport to Shanklin / Sandown then up to Brading.

Plenty of hills...probably not an issue for you, coming from Dorset.

IOW? November? Heavy Traffic?
Surely you can only have two out of these three applicable, but never all three?

Good point
November...i said the south coast road was nice (and it is) but quite exposed. Maybe something to bear in mind if its windy. That said, the other routes may be too

Hi, maybe living on the IOW can come in handy for once, lol! There are a couple of ways you can go.

1. Yarmouth to Ventnor/Shanklin along the south coast of the island and then onto Brading - There are quite a few big hills around Blackgang but the views are very nice.

2. Yarmouth to Newport by riding towards Cowes and then towards Brading by going over the downs towards Arreton and along the main road to Lake/Brading.

3. Yarmouth to Newport along the middle road of the island which takes you towards Carisbrooke. Then you can follow the same route from Newport to Brading.

If you decide on either route 1 or 2 then just follow the blue and white island signs which are part of the randonee and go either clockwise or anti-clockwise. Not sure which is which but one is white island on blue signa and vice versa.

My oppinion would be to head towards Freshwater/Blackgang/Ventnor and then onto Brading. Its a nicer ride and the view is very good.

What you riding for? Just a nice visit? Any questions just ask.

I'm glad i didnt give some duff advice then , your recommendation's much the same as mine.
I must say, the IoW exceeded my expectations. Went for a few days, (dragged into it by SWMBO, kind of reluctantly), but thoroughly enjoyed it.

No you gave some good advice, dont worry! The island has a lot of good rides and the west part of it is a lot less inhabitated than the east so the views are better and there is also less traffic. On the downside the weather tends to be worse on that side!

Paul iow,
I went on route 2 out and route 3 back. I prefered rte 3 , as I ended up missing the first half (poxy ferries!!) and in the dark the miles go quicker! oh & we lost 1-0.

Ah thats unlucky, was it a good game though? Personally I prefer route 1 as it has better scenery but route 3 was probably the most direct and reasonably flat. Have you ridden the island many times before?

Pauliow,
NO is the answer to your question, but, I will be doing similar journeys to Cowes And Newport as we've yet to play them away. Only become possible as my working circumstances have changed somewhat.
Enjoyed the scenery a lot. Saw a red squiral... but flattened... bit sad that.
