It’s a great ride, but I’d rather avoid the chaos of the event. As a bonus I’m sure you get dragged along with the excitement.

As crazy as it may sound, I've only been to IOW once in the last ~35 years of living in Southampton and that was a week's holiday back around 2006 iirc, long before I would have thought about riding!

Ventnor esplanade to the top of Down Lane was on my "to do" list in recent years, it's a bigger climb than Sheet (Village St) to Warren Corner near Petersfield at ~2 miles of ~10% average, maybe I'll do it on the ebike sometime.

Indeed; the route is busy enough as it is with normal tourists so an event like this wouldn't be my idea of a fun day out. I have rode the island 3 times so do enjoy it 🚵‍♂️🚴‍♀️

September seems like a good call

Bumping this thread to remind people that the IOW Randonee is not this Sunday.

Bumping this thread to remind people that the IOW Randonee IS this Sunday!

I will be riding it with an old school mate….& frankly, I am a little nervous 👀
I walked around it earlier in the year with another pal, over 4 days, so all my exercise leading up to that was walking….
I’ve been super busy, built a patio last week, & my back is in a little pain, so I haven’t really done any training….
I am ashamed to admit I have been on two wheels perhaps a handful of times this year 😳

BUT I have always fancied doing it. We will start from East Cowes.
I know the route (was born here, & lucky to have a place down here even though we live in the Midlands), just need to knuckle down and do it 🤞

Forecast is decent, with a tailwind up the “back of the Wight”, so it should be a good day 😎
Here’s to no mechanical mishaps to any doing it 🙏

Enjoy, it’s a grand day out.

I did it anti clockwise starting from Yarmouth, but not on Randonee day. Might do it clockwise sometime.
